Hamish Blakely

There is an immediacy to Hamish Blakely’s work. Starting with only a loose idea of what he wants to achieve, thoughts and ideas take shape, and finally the finished image emerges.

His latest collection features a sensual analysis of a couple dancing the tango, and as with most of these dance pieces, there is a deliberate balance between implied carnality and genuine tenderness.

Lighting and movement are everything, the closeness between the couple is evident, but there is still a hint of the divine battle going on as they play the games involved when dancing the tango.
